Low- to mid- grade sport climbs with the shortest walk-in imaginable

Caste inn quarry is a compact limestone crag set in a car-park. You could literally belay while sat in your car if you were that way inclined. Its perfect for babies and small children with a big open area, no walk in, and no obvious dangers (usual disclaimer applies). The car park serves a small nature reserve if you want to talk the little ones for a walk in between burns.

Despite the unusual setting there are some worthwhile low- to mid- grade climbs here including a 'Top 50' grade 5.

Climbing, hill walking and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death.

Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.

If an area is listed here as baby- or child- friendly it simply means that it is convenient, and does not mean the area is safe. Parents must make their own assessment of risk.

We're a couple of regular climbers who are lucky to have a little boy who loves the outdoors and will happily sit playing quietly in his little tent while we have a burn. We've found ourselves asking questions about baby friendly crags that we thought we'd better write some of them down.
